The best way to learn is by doing, so I did.
I opened a vintage shop with the idea that I would be able to practice advertising with a real client: myself. This was the ultimate learning opportunity. I created a brand that became successful in its own little field. I was also able to create a profitable business, which was pretty cool. I sometimes failed and sometimes succeeded. All in all, it was fun. I learned about branding, advertising, entrepreneurship, customer service, and management (to name a few things).
It all started with a dumb joke (and a few drinks)
I came up with “Make Turku Capital Again” in 2019—a topical phrase that tapped into local pride. I thrifted clothes and embroidered the text on them. Demand was high, and the clothes sold out in seconds. The brand eventually expanded, and in 2021, I was able to open a vintage shop offering more than just “Make Turku Capital Again” products.
